I just booked a week trip for me and my son in Bonaire and we're pumped. :D

I've been perusing the forums gathering info about the trip and where to dive, but my main question resides in renting a camera. I have a high end DSLR(Nikon D2Xs) but to rent a case for that is very expensive from some research I have done. I noticed a couple dive shops offered camera rentals and I wondered if anyone has rented there before. I really would like some decent pictures and don't want to use my daughters Canon with the underwater case (took ok pictures, but needs really good light, doesn't support strobe).

Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Michael

Fish Eye Photography also rents cameras and strobes. They are located at Den Laman condos next to the Sand Dollar.

We were on Bonaire last July and the equipment that Buddy's was renting looked to be simple point and shoot rigs. You also might check with your LDS and see if they rent cameras.

If your daughter's Cannon has a hot shoe then this might be a good solution for sync with a strobe. HeinrichsWeikamp GbR

Look at the bottom of the page, they rent DSLRs also.

Here's what Fish Eye rents: Fish-Eye Photo - Bonaire School for Underwater Photography I flooded my Oly SP350 half way through our trip and only managed to retrieve about 100 of the 400 shots on the memory card, and really regretted not downloading my photos each day on one of Fish Eye Photo's computers.

I rented one of their basic Sea & Sea DX-750G with strobe and got some half decent shots with it, but still need to edit them.

We dove the Salt Pier with Fish Eye and had them make a video of our dive there, and they also guided us on a night dive at the Salt Pier. I really enjoyed working with Fish Eye....

+1 on Buddy Dive. I rented from them and would do so again without hesitation. They also have a business arrangement with Reef Photo; if you buy from RP, John Wall -- who runs Buddy Dive's photo shop -- will give you a free class on the care and feeding of your new rig and some photo tips.
