Back last Saturday night from a week in Bonaire. Second trip dedicated to my little Canon S90.

Had a blast diving and shooting.

Just placed my order 5 minutes ago -- headed to Bonaire in 2 weeks.

Remind us -- what are you using for wet lenses(if any) and strobes. Did you get to try your friend's UFL-165AD lens? How much do you have to zoom, if any, with the wet lenses?

Any tips/suggestions for settings, etc. would be appreciated.

skynscuba,

All shot with Canon S90 in Ikelite's ULTRAcompact housing and AF35 strobe(s).

Used a friend's INON UFL-165 AD Fisheye with 10 Bar adapter that I found threaded in enough to only need one "tap" on the zoom control to eliminate vignetting. Some of the WA shots taken with it but many shown were taken with my Ikelite W20 67mm thread in wide angle lens also.

I actually used the Ikelite W20 most of the week as on my housing it is a little smaller and still plenty wide at least for me.

Technique always rules to get good images.....

Later!

Thanks, David. Can you say which of the above were with the UFL-165?

Were the close ups taken without wet lenses, or are you using a wet macro lens?

The Hilma Hooker wreck shots I know I had the INON UFL-165 AD Fisheye on.

The close ups of Christmas Tree worms, Coral polyps and sponge detail were with a +10 Subsee super close up lens. Very hard to use that puppy but then it IS 10X magnification! You have to tele your lens to 105mm equivalent and then PHYSICALLY move in close (like 5") to where it looks like it is the focal range. THEN auto-focus to frame your shot.....A very thin FOV (field of view) but shows incredible small detail......

Everything else was either straight through the lens port or with my Ikelite W20 lens.

The surprising thing is I literally left my ikelite W20 on and zoomed for many of the closer shots including the Banded Coral Shrimp and more (!!!!!) I swear it makes everything look a tad sharper......I will mainly shoot with the W20 on almost all the time now and only zoom from 35mm (to eliminate the minor vignetting) and still zoom maybe mid way if I have to.

I have returned the UFL 165-AD lens to my friend and will likely use my Ikelite W20 from now on. The difference in real world use to back up maybe 1-1.5' and for the slight difference in angle it is not worth me buying another $450.00 lens. Just my own choice.....

I tend to shoot "tight" meaning I get close and fill my frame. Could be years of shooting a SLR or who knows? Could just be how I "see" an image I'm composing.....

Did anyone catch the Trumpetfish with a little red fish in it's mouth backwards? (Tail first versus head first down the gullet)

The Trumpetfish was choking on it and the little fish kept trying to make it back out.......But didn't........

Get out there and shoot. You'll learn more by using your system :)
