The death toll is above 218 and rising. There are hundreds missing, but this could be people that haven't checked in yet. There were 2 explosions, 1 in each nightclub and they were the 2 hottest hang outs in the area. There is 1 dead kiwi with 12 missing and dozens of aussies with over 200 missing. I don't know about other nationalities, but it is very bad. Alot of fires and burns. They were huge explosions. Vehicles in the streets were incinerated. The photos in this mornings papers were horrific.
The local hospital can't cope and the airlines and Aussie airforce are ferrying the injured out to Australia and Singapore for hospital treatment. Others are being flown home with Quantas putting on extra flight to cope. One kiwi there saw the nightclub outer wall blow out into the street into the crowds outside which made the death toll even greater. The terrorists couldn't have picked a better location to get foreigners. The daeth toll will be predominately young party goers and travellers.

From my understanding there were two separate bombings. One in front of the Sari Club, the other near the consulates. Very tragic.

The first bomb went off outside the American Consulate in Renon, Denpasar. There was no casualty and damage was minimum. This incident took place around 11pm (1/2 hour before the two successive blasts in Kuta). This one is certainly a major scare for me, because my Dad lives five minutes away from the Consulate. Thank God he's okay, just shocked when he heard the blast.

I think there was a report in The Straits Times on Monday, 14 Oct.

As for the bombs in Kuta, one small bomb exploded outside Paddy's Irish Pub on Jalan Legian, Kuta, Bali. This was followed by the massive car bomb in a quick succession, just 30 metres away from the first target: Sari Club across the street.

Another bomb exploded in Manado around 7pm on the same day as the Bali blast. The Philippines Consulate was the target this time, but thankfully nobody was injured.

my project manager worked with a couple of the ausie guys that died in the bali bomb out in Hong Kong, he worked with them for around 2 to 5 years

I guess it wasn't bad enough that we lost so many divers and innocent people last 11 September....now this. ;-0 I guess we'll just have to accept the fact that there will always be someplace on Earth where we won't be safe. I would love to dive in the Red Sea, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. Indonesia and Phillipines are out. :( All the security measures we have to take at the airports are necessities now, but they're still annoying.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims of this outrageous incident. Just think -- it could have been any of us in that nightclub...
