I checked this exhibit out recently and I highly recommend it to anybody who has an interest. I now know, for example, that a thyroid tumor looks a lot like a barbecued chicken leg.:D

I saw this exhibit when it was in London back in 2001 or 2002.

Some people think it's creepy, but I found it quite fascinating. Working in law enforcement is only part of the reason; in this setting, the specimens are prepared in such a way as to make you forget they were living human beings at one time. It's all very clinical in its approach, unlike the run-of-the mill crime scene with its spilled blood, assorted smells (decomposition in particular), and the occasional hysterical grieving relative.

The one that still fascinates me to this day is the one where they stripped an entire body of everything except that dealing with the central nervous system, and suspended it in a giant slab of Lucite. Imagine if someone stood in front of an x-ray machine that only sees the brain, spinal cord, and nerves; this is what that display looked like. I've always wondered how they did that.
