BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man SCUBA Diving in Hillsboro Beach apparently suffered some sort of decompression problem when surfacing Wednesday afternoon. People on the dive boat called rescuers in Broward County for assistance. Broward County brought in a marine rescue unit from Boca Raton for help.

The man was transported to shore where paramedics rushed him to North Broward Medical Center. From there, he was airlifted to an area hospital with a decompression chamber.

While we are awaiting further details, BocaNewsNow.com has learned that the man was diving in 145 feet of water. Something apparently went wrong with his equipment. He made it to the surface but did not decompress — an important part of finishing a “dive.”

The man’s condition was not known as he was airlifted. It was unclear if he was part of a professional dive operation. The incident initially occurred east of the Hillsboro lighthouse.
