Now that a name has been chosen for the Whaler, do I just paint it on and call it good?

I understand that if a boat already has a name, the denaming and renaming ceremonies are supposed to fend of bad luck.

I'm not particulary interested in "calling out to Poseidon" but this weekend's adventures provide a perfect opportunity for some sort of boat blessing....

I can't believe you'd go through all of that and not put the name on the transom!!

NOW, let's have a contest to select a type face/font for it ?????

Nothing special needed. Just use black electrical tape to make your letters. If you want to get fancy you can letter it with duct tape and then shadow that with the electrical tape.

KIDDING.

If it were me I would use MS Word, MS Paint or a graphics program and then project the name onto the boat with an LCD projector and pencil it on. Then paint it in by hand.

A faster and better but more expensive way would be to have the name done in vinyl lettering and slap it on.

An even faster and much much cheaper way would be to purchase vinyl stickon letters from Lowe's.

There's no such thing as bad luck.

Something I learned the hard way...as usual...if you paint it on, I would cover the paint with clear gelcoat. And if you have pvc pipe mounted vertical on your trailer so you can see where it is without the boat, cover the tops with something like those foam beer bottle coolers so it won't scratch it getting it on and off.

I suppose you could cut a stencil...It's pretty easy to do.

30 years ago I spent half a year's salary and completely refurbished my 30' St. Pierre dory... hull, decks and rebuilt the engine. Decided to rename it from "Agape" to "Eleutheria." No special ceremony for de-naming and re-naming. It sank 3 months later. Heed my advice.
