Hello, I have a non-urgent question. Does BMI (Body mass index) play a part when it comes to nitrogen narcosis?Im almost 6ft and 130lbs (very thin). It seems I feel the affects of deep diving more so than my buddies who have a more "normal" BMI. I feel fine at 10-80ft , but when I go 100+ it changes. Thank you

I know narcosis effects varies between people, but I don't know if there are any established factors the influence this. Some people feel it a lot, some don't. I know that GUE has research convincing them that individuals do not actually adapt to narcosis (even though they think they do) but it is pretty clear that some people are more or less susceptible than others.

some people are just more susceptible. I'm a big guy, alcohol takes a long time for anything to happen, but I get narc'd quite easily. If you are regularly diving to 100+ ft, a light trimix course may be the best solution to help remove the narcosis at depth. I think TDI and IANTD both have an Advanced Recreational Trimix which just adds enough to help with the narc.

You are diving best mix for bottom yeah? Going to nitrox helps some, but oxygen can be narcotic as well, so it doesn't always work for everyone.

Thank you. I dont deep dive often, so it may take getting acustom to aswell. On the 126ft dive, I was breathing 28% Nitrox (computer set at 1.4). This is the best non-trimix for the depth.

I have never really gotten used to it despite going down there quite a bit... I can fight thru it and still function normally, but it is not an enjoyable experience, so I put some helium in the mix if I'm planning on going below 110....

TDI doesn't have a recreational trimix program. The "lighest" helium program they offer is helitrox which is a deco procedures level class with trimix to 150ft.

that's the one I was thinking of. Same thing as IANTD's ART.
