Hello,

Still loving my EPL-1 setup, kit lens, 7-14 panny lens with one exception. On longer distance stills and video where the strobe or video lights just won't penetrate far enough I've been less than pleased with my results. So after this last week in Bonaire I thought, a red filter would be perfect for those times when strobe/lighting doesn't work, there has to be a soln. I've read here that some (e.g. Under Water - Frank) have used the Equinox 52mm blue water filter and I like the results on stills. Has anyone used that for video?

Is there a magic filter solution available?

Has anyone seen or used this? I found it in Scuba Symphony's ad in Underwater Photography mag, issue 64 page 41.

Seems like it would do the trick too. I'm looking for something removable so can shoot with strobe as well. Ideally would fit on both Zen and Oly ports but that's not a necessity.

TIA!

Brian.

Hi Brian - Don't know about the blue water filter but if you google Martin Edge there is a great video of him talking to a UK underwater photography group about using the magic filter and how to get the best out of it.

Great question Brian...I miss the ability to add wet lenses and other things to my Oly...

I heard back from Scuba Symphony on the filter in the picture, RM492 for the filter and RM99 for shipping - $196.54. The filter is "similar to" UrPRo CY filter.

I'm hesitant to try for a couple reasons, no real world reports on the thing that I've been able to find, $200 is over my "let's give it a shot, if it doesn't work out no big deal" limit and last, I pinged Reef and they had reservations about putting that filter in front of the Zen port and having it present trouble focusing since its close to the minimum focus distance. Reef recommended an on lens filter - which means no ability to take it off during the dive.

Still waiting to hear back from Magic, would like to see if they have a filter of similar material that I could perhaps make my own out of. I've got an idea of how to build one but I need the filter!

interesting

I got a large piece to cut down to my own size for my housing. If you are on wp send a message to Alex.

I spoke to a salesperson at Backscatter and they suggested before I purchase the magic filter trying out the underwater white balance settings. I haven't tried it but it might do the trick.
