CESA is one of those tasks that is much much harder in confined water than open water. You'll be fine.

Hi,

If the weather holds, I will be doing my certification dives this weekend. One thing I am somewhat apprehensive about is the emergency swim ascent. Does anyone have tips for conserving air in emergency situations? For some reason even a minute seems like an eternity when you have to keep moving.

Thanks,

V
Hi! I am just completing my OW dives also. I found even though I was nervous about doing my CESA in the OW, it went alot easier than I expected. I used the Ahhhhhhh method, my instructor was with me and I found I had more air than I expected. :D Don't sweat it, You'll do fine!

One of the biggest potential problems is to exhale too much. You do not need a massive AHHH but rather just enough to ensure the air way remains open. As long as the airway is open the excess air in your lungs will vent all by itself.

Thanks for the tips. I did my openwater dives this weekend and the ascent was much easier than in the pool.
