just called to see about diving two weekends from now since I might be staying there a couple days. The dive shop doesn't do charters anymore. And the guy in charge of diving isn't working there yet because its not the summer season yet. How do I get some dives in without catching the ferry to the mainland?
Will be staying on the island with nondiving wife.

I'm not aware of any island based scuba charters. There are lot's of fishing charters and perhaps they would be interested in taking you out. It would be low $$ for them compared to fishing though so it may be a tough sell. If I were you, I would start with the fishing charters to see if they are interested and at what price.

Beyond that you are limited to the mainland based charters.

yeah .. your limited to the mainland, and even then theres a few less of them this year...

Try a shore dive from mansion beach. We snorkled there and saw a large stingray 5ft wing span and a huge lions mane full of butterfish and 3 pilot fish. Vis was about 30 ft. Thats my best guess. You will have a small hike from the parkinglot to the ideal entry near the rocks to the north.

Also ask around like you are doing now and a boat may take you to a nearby wreck for a fee.

i would think a trip to the mainland would be your most productive way to go..
some fish boats not gonna do a tie in for ya like a dive boat will.
if you wanna dive, use a dive operation
its way safer and comfortable with acomadations for a diver

Plus, my wife's not going to like me Solo diving unfamiliar territory. Thanks
