Thanks for the report. I've camped and hiked but this sounds alittle too cramped for my style, I would not appreciate the accomodations Don has described. I'm taking Star Dancer latter this year, BlackBeards doesn't sound like its even in the ball park!

Dive Safe,
Caymanaic

what ive heard is that blackbeards is a great cruise. don was so cramped because he took the cruise on the week of christmas and new year. uhhh duuuuu ofcourse the boat is going to be packed with people getting away. anyone who has lived in florida will tell you that the seas can be very rough in the winter, and the air and water temp cooler. i think that don should of done more research before planning a trip with blackbeards. a good trip would entiltle an ordinary week, no holidays EVER!!! and in the summer time. the boat will be less packed and you can move around. anyway for the woman she needs to take a navigation course. a good diver is always learning!! better luck next time don. i dont understand how this post would affect anyones decision to use blackbeards. all the problems he listed were his own fault due to inproper planning and no knowledge of local winter weather. and becoming sick was no ones fault. things like that just sometimes happen.

I can't agree with that. Part of research is actually doing the thing he's researching... go figure! The people operating the boat should book fewer passengers if it's that crowded. Who could have known how many people on board before the trip?? But, since Don has done the research, I for one won't ever book on a Blackbeard boat.

Great report Don. Thank you!

Sorry to hear that you were sick. It's bad enough to be sick while away from home, but to be sick on vacation and on a boat... I can't imagine!!

Thank you again. Great report!!

I have done the Black Beard's thing 3 times. Going for my 4th this march.
Leading a group of local college students down there for thier spring break.

I agree that black beard's experience isn't for everyone, but it isn't horrendous either.
If you are going to dive see lots of different sites over the 5 days you are actually diving and for the price it is really a good deal.

Usually 3 times to a place is my limit. I like to get out and see other locations and visit new areas, but college students on a budget who were motivated to dive and fore go the college spring break thing, when put side by side with the 3 other options we could have done they unanimously chose black beards.

We are hoping to fill all 22 seats on the boat and already have 15 filled so we are off to a good start.

Black beards is was it is. It is a lets get out and dive, see some cool locations and do it inexpensively.

I'm glad this cruise fit's the bill for college students. I know how being a student hits the budget! :) I remember having a diet of Ramin noodles to save some money and of course cheep beer. :)

I'm glad you told us about students taking this boat. Even more reason for me to find another live aboard. :) I'm too old to put up with the shenanigans of college students while I'm on vacation. I don't doubt that it's a good live aboard for the younger set, but not for me. At 48 I've grown accustom to enjoying many creature comforts while taking a vacation, albeit a dive vacation.

nice attitude about these college kids. these are a good bunch i have been working with since august, and they are by passing the traditional springbreak to dive vice party like rock stars, but thanks for your input

I thought about that. They probably are a good bunch of kids.
No doubt you'll have a good time with them.
