A man who was diving in waters near Plymouth has died, police said.

Officers were notified at around 13:00 (BST) on Friday 31 May to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man in his 60s.

Emergency services attended the scene and found an unconscious diver at Bigbury Beach.

The man was airlifted to Derriford Hospital and later pronounced dead.

His next of kin have been informed.

The incident is not believed to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said a helicopter from Newquay, lifeboats from Hope Cove, Plymouth, and Sedgewell RNLI all assisted in the search operation.
