Hey all,
We just got back from our trip to MAUI where I had my two sons (13 / 12) certified. Through this board, we were able to connect with some local DMs from Maui and ended up working with Shaka Doug.
The experience was everything I had hoped for and more. We did 10 dives on our trip at several reefs including a night dive and although I had been to Maui diving before, I found this experience to be my best experience yet.
Shaka Doug did a great job technically with the kids, but also was very easy to deal with and made each dive interesting and fun. We saw everything from Sharks to Turtles to Squid, Octopii, Eels and much much more. I had taken my new UW camera setup down and we got a lot of great pictures / movies of things I had never seen before (Lionfish, Frogfish etc.). At the end of the day, I know my kids are well trained and ready for life under the sea and their first experience was nothing short of amazing.
If it had not been for the board, I would have connected with a dive shop in Maui and been hit and miss on the instructor which could have vastly altered the experience. Having the previous threads to go through and to see recommendations from several board members made this trip a huge success!
I hope to try help others when I can the way the board has helped me out!
...by the way, that's a pregnant white tip in the background and not my other son...grin.
