I just don't log dives
Just by the title, I am certain that some of you are already rolling your eyes and going "what the hell was this guy thinking"

Now, the purpose of this note is to express an opinion about the poor products and terrible service from Beuchat.

I am the unfortunate owner of a Beuchat CX2000 computer. While this computer was under warranty it started misbehaving and rebooting on surface intervals. I sent this in for warrnty repair in Sept. 02 to the Beuchat NA office in Florida.

After numerous calls and follow-ups, I finally got the computer back AFTER 6 MONTHS. (that in itself is another story)
Once I got it back, it just did not seem right and I contacted Beuchat again and they insisted that it was "as good as new".

So what happens: on my first dive trip with the computer, some of the LEDS fail on the first dive and the entire unit flooded on the 2nd dive and it is completely ruined.

I have tried on numerous occassions to contact Beuchat in FLorida and France to register my displeasure. So far, they have choosen to ignore my letters.

So the CX2000 will soon become the world's most expensive tank banger which I will proudly display with a sign that says Beuchat=Crap.

I hope that others will think twice before they consider buying products from a company that has poor service and a clear lack of regard for their customers.

The idea of a French computer doesn't sound right, for some reasons. But then again, a Finnish computer is not really that obvious either...

Where did you buy it?

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you've been having.

I own a Beuchat VX10 Iceberg for my singles rig. Its been great.

One suggestion would be to try giving them a ring. I've spoken with them a couple of time regarding service and they have been most helpful.

Good luck. Hope it works out.

Arnaud, this was a gift but was purcahsed at Scuba Network here in NYC. I have spoken to them but since this is out of warranty, they cannot do much (so they say). They are also phasing out the Beuchat line as I understand it as they have not been big sellers (gee, I wonder why)

N.E.W.- I have heard some good things about 1 or 2 of their regs and I am glad you are happy with it. Hopefully you will not need their assistance or service to repair this.

In the past, I spoke to the folks in FL and they were, for the most part, very pleasant. I called them when I first got it back to discuss and was essentially blown off and/or I was getting conflicting info depending on who I talked to. Since the entire thing is now dead, I called once again and had to leave a message and got no return call. Now I prefer to do this in a manner which can be documented rather than getting into a "he said- she said" debate.

Cheers.....david

LiesurePro would probably have just replaced it. Why don't you call Cochran? Since they made it, you'd think they'd have more interest in making things right.

If your computer failed during the term of the warranty and was never properly fixed or replaced, you should be able to argue that the term of the warranty has been suspended.

I would make the point with both the manufacturer and the LDS.

to NOT use a computer as gospel but for reference only. In fact "For Reference Only" should be stamped on all of them. Do a good pre dive profile on paper and stick to it. Let your computer confirm it for you to only know you planned your dive right. Doing decompression dives with any electronic device scares me. So far so good using my head in my 30 years of diving.

I wouldn't dive with anything French. Nope. Not me.

...but I am a big fan of french red wines:)

UPDATE.

yesterday I received an email from the head of Beuchat here in the US apologizing for the situation. To quote from the note:

"....(I am) recently aware of your situation and will take the necessary steps to assist you...."

So while this may be 2 months since I first complained, it is a step in the right direction. I will send the unit off and they will send it off to France  and we will see what happens.

Will certainly update to the board as the saga continues.....

Cheers,

David
