In all those countries you can travel on your own. Mostly the people speak english and are quiet helpfull. Don't worry, you will have a great trip.

I did travel all these countries, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia on my own back in 1993, and till then things just did get easier.

If you like the beach scene, Mui Ne is beautiful. It's more of a windsurfing/kiteboarding destination, and there are gorgeous resorts from moderate to luxurious there. None are taller than the tallest palm tree. There's a desert nearby, one of the few tropical deserts in the world. I thought Nha Trang was overdeveloped, with high rise hotels right across from the beach front.
