Thanks for all of the great info!

I'm really a newbie and wasn't familiar with PADI until now. It looks like there are two PADI affiliated dive shops located within walking distance of my apartment...Empire Divers and Adventure SCUBA. There's also another shop downtown, Pan Aqua Diving, that uses a pool located very near my apartment.

I'll see what I can find out about these shops and book something as soon as I get my schedule for next month :)

Seems like Ive heard of Empire Divers before here on the boards? I know there are a LOT of New York and New Jersey area divers here on the boards, or at least there used to be. I'm just returning to the boards after a couple of years hiatus. Good luck with your instruction. I think you'll find that once you find a good local dive shop that you really like, they will bend over backwards to accomodate you. Divers are a bit of different breed, and we enjoy helping each other. Im sure you will find that out soon enough. :14:

I am sure that the LDS with which I work (in Colorado) is no different from 90% of the others out there in this regard. If you walked in and told them your problem, they would work out a custom schedule for you without hesitation. You don't have to do each of the training sessions with the same class.
