Best time of year for dive locations?

Does anyone know of a single resource(on the web, preferably) that notes the best time of year to go diving in different locations? I think I would like to choose my destinations based on calm weather, warm water, and good visibility.

Having had a dive boat sink out from under me (and the crew!), helped rescue the divemaster on another boat (both in rough seas), and dealt with visibility less than one would expect, it would be nice to do my research in advance.

As a Geographer I know there are a number of factors that determine good diving conditions, so I suspect there is more to it than a general answer like "summertime!"

I don't know of any single source, but I do know that Rodales puts out a Dive Vacation Planning Guide that lists a ton of different destinations and their conditions.
