Hi,

I was diving in Key Largo this summer and want to go back in the fall, winter or spring. Does anyone know about the best times of the year to dive Key Largo.

Key Largo diving is good year-round. Summer is probably best... with low winds (generally), water temps in the mid-eighties, and excellent visibility. Fall is much the same... tho hurricanes are more of a threat, and the water cools as winter approaches. Winter and Spring are hit or miss as far as wind and waves go, with water temps mostly in the seventies. Air temperatures are also cooler, while room rates are generally higher, in the Winter and Spring.

I have never been unhappy in Key Largo. The vis is always excellent. Water temperatures go down to the low 70's in the winter but the diving is still great. The only time I would be wary of is hurricaine season which is roughly now through October. But if you get lucky on the weather this is a great time to dive the keys. Prices are lower. Water is warmer.

What thickness wetsuits are required for the keys during August?

We have a trip planned their next year.

The water in the keys will be bath water warm in late August, typically not less than 85 F. I'm going labor day weekend and only taking a lycra top (for stings) and swimtrunks.

Bugs beware.
