Saturday looks marginally better than Sunday right now, and topside temp of 68 isn't bad at all:

SAT
SW WINDS 10 TO 15 KT. SEAS 2 TO 4 FT. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS.

SUN
W WINDS 10 TO 15 KT...INCREASING TO 15 TO 20 KT WITH GUSTS UP
TO 25 KT. SEAS 2 TO 4 FT. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS.

Anyone have thoughts on whether there would be any sites or characteristics of sites that would have better vis -- perhaps from less runoff from shore? One possibility could be to get out a bit further and at higher tide...

Also, I haven't been following any reports of sewage outflows into offshore waters, but that could pose a danger as well. Don't know if the following ban on shellfish applies to lobster, but I would imagine so.

Since lobsters are not filter feeders, they generally do not apply to most shellfish bans.

With that crappy forecast and all the rain/run-off we've had, maybe Hathaway's Pond. Better off staying home and drinking.....coffee, that is.

You people worry about runoff too much. Go...dive...The ocean has a habit of cleaning up after itself rather rapidly. The forecast looks great...2-4 ft doesn't mean anywhere near shore...with 10-15 knot winds you might have a tiny bit of chop, but that's about it.

Go somewhere N or E facing, like Old Garden Beach, Cathedral Rocks, or Folly Cove. If you are worried about runoff, a little tiny freshwater pond is certainly not going to be an improvement over the ocean. Don't dive the mouth of the Merrimack and you'll be fine. :)

I'm a wimp, Soggy. Waves, cold, wind -- didn't bother me. Now that I'm getting older I get cold, grumpy and wet real easy. I've got to buy a dry suit this year. I even like to sit and do nothing in the sun. I'll be a leather-faced retiree in no time!

As far as Hathaway's goes, I thought rain and run-off didn't affect it much because it's a spring-fed kettle pond? You can only dive that place every now and again and I've got my quota this year already. Good luck if you try diving this weekend and don't forget to give us a report.

Me too, and I haven't been yet. Why folks will drive all that way to dive that puddle is beyond me.

No Hathaway's for me...I've done my share of freshwater diving during an enforced stint in NH and I've sworn it off.

Do any of you ever check out the link to the NAS Weather Dude? It's a trip...I wonder who does that and how they come up with their estimate of water vis. (today it's showing between 0 to .0089 ft.) http://www.northatlanticscuba.com/weather.shtml

STB was blown out the other day, so just to get wet, we went to HP. Better than not diving, but no lobsta.
