I bought a pair of so-called Huaraches (running sandals) from Huaraches Barefoot Running Sandals of the Tarahumara Indians | InvisibleShoe.com mostly because when I travelled with my Vibram Five Fingers running shoes they not only stank up my suitcase but the whole hotel room (even inside an airtight plastic bag?).

So I decided to get some Invisible Shoes for my latest trip. They came really fast and as soon as they arrived I took them out for a 3.5 mile test run. Spend most of this first run stopping and re-adjusting the laces. My second run was 4.5 miles and the laces felt fine. My third run was for 5.25 miles but after about 4 miles I noticed that the top of my left foot was scraped up by the laces so I did the last part barefoot (good thing the roads weren't too hot to run on yet). I adjusted the laces some more and the scraping didn't happen again. Fourth run was 6 miles and everything was fine.

Then I went on my trip and the first thing I noticed is how little space the Invisible shoes take, much, much less than VFF. First stop Dallas 100F weather: did two very hot 5 mile runs in my new shoes and they performed beautifully except for the small parts of the trail that was all rocks. (Even VFF wouldn't have helped me there). After I got back to the hotel room I rinsed them under the faucet and they were dry within the hour so I could pack them in my suitcase.

Second stop was Cozumel Mexico for scuba diving. Although I prefer to walk around barefoot I realized that because of the temperature (85-90F) and the "quality" of the streets that I needed some protection. The Invisible shoe worked perfectly! I even swam with them (mainly because they are so comfortable that I forgot I was wearing them until I got into the water). They were great on the diving boat, not at all slippery even after they got totally soaked. And once back on land they dried very quickly and I would wear them to lunch and dinner.

And did I mention they weigh almost nothing (4.3 ounces) and take up no space (4mm thick sole)! Much better than regular sandals.

So if you are looking for sandals (for running or just walking around the boat/hotel) then I suggest you have a look at these. They even custom make them for you so they are guaranteed to fit.

I am just a happy customer and have no ties with Invisibleshoe.com
