Folks I have a favor to beg of ya'll.

My wife and I are considering moving from Texas to Florida after I finish law school this year and want some ideas on location based on the favor of the local's dive sites. I know my priorities may be twisted but I am obsessed.

Anyway, I would like to know what major city---of a couple hundred thousand--has the best dives sites close by. Also give me the names of the sites if you dont mind to help in my research of the area.

My ulitmate goal would be to find a city large enough to have a strong legal market and beautiful reefs close by.

Thank ya'll for you assistance.

Bill.

KeyLargoBrent once bubbled...
or you could move to Key Largo, and commute to Miami. I relocated to Florida from Dallas in 1995... one of the best (albeit difficult) decisions I ever made. Good luck!

I agree. I used to live in Key Largo and commuted to Miami. It's not a bad drive. Nothing a little NPR couldn't cure as far as boredom goes. I was working just Sat, Sun, Mon so I skirted the Keys traffic.

Good luck in your decision!!

Granted, being a native Miamian I may be a little prejudiced.
My wife is a legal secy. who has always preferred to work in downtown Miami, the sheer number of firms has always assured her of excellent pay and benefit packages. She commutes by express bus as our area does not have metrorail access.
I would suggest looking into the south Miami area, well served by commuter rails and so much closer to the Fl. Keys, Homestead bayfront park, yet also accessible to Miami's wreck diving.

Here's a couple of sites you may find useful:

BTW, I must say I admire your priorities ! Good Luck

Bomber,

Thanks for the correction. Hmmm, if my wife reads the rest of your post I might be hard pressed to come up with an excuse not to relocate ! I agree, the Keys are my fav. sites to dive in Fl.

Florida is FULL of GREAT dive sites! From the tip of the panhandle to the end of the Keys, we have some extraoridinary diving... both fresh and salt. So do yourself a favor and move to the middle... Central Florida! Where you have the best access to either coast, the caves of North Florida or the sunny reefs of South Florida. The Orlando area is WHAT'S HAPPENING!!!

Pete ,please explain I-4 at 7:53 am and 5:23 pm.I love Mickeytown ,but just s-east of there is Vero .It adds an hour west but leaves you on my beautiful Atlantic coast.I'm in Jax...forget it too.I love the people and climate, but it's "fer piece" to go to the Keys .The East coast b/w Canaveral and PB are really the best real estate option in Fla.Growing ,but far from densely populated. As a transplanted (1983)Native Texan (always in caps)I can tell you you 'll be spoilt by the clear water. The BBQ here doesn't quite suck, but close. No Joe Allens(Abilene) unless I have it overnighted .
