Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone can advise me, from a professional point of view, which is the best place to work in the Greater Caribbean area. I'm in Venezuela at the moment and was considering Bonaire as it's so close by, but being single and having previously worked on a quiet island in the Maldives, I don't want to end up in the same situation as there, when I never had anything to do in my spare time. Bonaire sounds like a favourite from the other threads I've read on here, but sometimes a quieter place is not always the best for a single working instructor!

I've seen a few postings on the PADI website for jobs in Grand Cayman recently and the diving sounds fantastic there, but I'm concerned about threads on this website which speak of it being an expensive island (not great for a working instructor). As I'm British, I guess working in the Caymans would be easier for me, but I don't have enough money to make a mistake taking a job on an island I may not like and I can't afford to visit the island prior to taking a job.

I'm not a total party maniac and am mostly too tired after a hard day's diving  to go out anywhere anyway, but I like to have options for places to go, particulary on my day off, to get away from my place of work. Having recently worked in Cyprus, I also want to see some aquatic life during my dives and not struggle to find something of interest worth showing people. I miss the mantas, turtles, sharks and corals of the Maldives!

I hope someone can offer me some good advice of where would be great to work in this area as I could really do with the help! I guess what I'm looking for is a balance between a great place to work as a passionate diving instructor and somewhere I can socialise as well.

Cheers
Vx

Grand Cayman has excellent socializing potential, I can assure you, but if you're trying to finance it on a dive instructor's salary, well ...................... it's the most expensive island in the Caribbean, by a pretty large margin.
