My wife does not dive, so our vacations need to have a combination of good diving and non diving activities or a nice resort.

We've been all over the Caribbean and Hawaii.

I've been wanting to dive the world class dive areas in the Pacific, but have been having trouble finding a place that meets our needs.

Right now it looks like Bora Bora, Moorea and Palau Pacific Resort fit us best.

Anyone have any suggestions ? We are coming from NY, so travel time/distance does matter.

I was just going to suggest PPR! Remember though, Palau is a sleepy place even at the PPR. There is a gym though and a nice beach, and a spa. Blue Corner diving is action packed and pelagic heaven. I don't think any of the usual places in the Caribbean rivals it, that I am aware of. I too, want to go to Fiji--haven't made it yet. Next for me after Bali (Tulamben) will be PNG. That would be a cool place to go if she is anthropogy or art inclined. There are some safety concerns, and she may not be the type to roam around alone. I am waiting for a book on artifacts from PNG. "Parabolic" on this board is exceptionally well traveled and I got juiced up about PNG from his pictures of endegenous people.

Your wife might like Bali. Even after the bombings, I think it would be safer than PNG. You can hire a driver for the day for about 50 dollars. The shopping is one of the few places still not just more world market junk.(I hear) For one thing the Italian designers has swooped in and are doing quality unique clothing with cheap Indonesian labor.

make sure you negotiate a decent price for PPR, much variation exists. It is very quiet there. I thought it was very nice but kind of boring for my tastes. I thought the food not worthy of the steep prices...very good but nothing exciting. If you end up in Palau Dragon Tei and the Taj, very innovative! Oh.. a lot of Pacific theatre WW II history if she is in to that. She could visit the Japanese bunkers, bomber wrecks, etc.

Hi:

You might want to consider Matangi Island Resort in Fiji. It is a luxury resort that is really special and has incredible diving. The resort has daily activities like village visits and waterfall tours that would keep a non-diver happily occupied. It is the only resort on the island and they will take you to Horseshoe Bay for a private beach experience......really a beautiful place. The resort includes gourmet meals that are really great. We have a special at this resort that is stay 7 nights pay for only 5 nights through the end of September......so this makes is pretty affordable for a luxury resort......probably cheaper than Bora Bora.

If you are thinking Tahiti, you might want to consider doing Bora Bora and Rangiroa because the diving on Rangiroa is the best. Rangiroa is also an atoll with a gorgeous lagoon with great snorkeling for a non-diver.

If you want maps or brochures just emal me.

Thanks,
Mary Jane
