I have heard everyone say to go with Leisurepro and Scubatoys...Also Scubatoys gives a discount to Scubaboard members. I am actually in the process of buying from leisurepro...I ordered a wetsuit and they give good prices...if it fits well and everything looks good I am keeping it. The good thing about wet suits on these sites is that they allow you to return it if it doesn't fit. Many local dive shops don't allow you to do this because they don't want unmovable merchandise in their store. They will order it for you as long as you buy it from them....but they definitely give you no breaks in the prices....so the internet is the next best thing, especially websites that allow you to return things. Hope this helps!! =D Oh yeah congrats on the BC and regulator!! What brand did you buy?

"I'm not really sure there is a connection to be made between wanting to save a little money and worrying about your job being shipped overseas (unless you work for a LDS).

My experience is that many LDS's charge a ridiculous mark-up leveraging the loyalty of their students and the ignorance of their customers to the fact that they can often get the same product from a reputable on-line store for a HUGE discount.

I like my LDS and I even consider myself a friend to the store. I will only train there and with no one else. But as an educated consumer I realize that their prices are outrageous and I shop accordingly. For items under $25 -- LDS. Anything bigger -- Leisurepro."

Companies who make product overseas do so because the american worker wants to much money for hourly labor. People buy product from leisure pro becuse they believe the local LDS charges to much money for product. Yes I own a local LDS store and my clients are very loyal and no we don't overcharge for product. They are charged a fair price for my services. If they choose to use leisure pro then they have said I don't need my service and thats ok. We can't please everbody.

So if I walk into your store looking to get my reg serviced, you don't want my business?

Brilliant attitude!

Having a good LDS is important to me. Although on occasion I purchase from online vendors, I am usually willing to pay slightly higher prices to support my LDS of choice. The proprietor works to remain as price competitive as he can be and stay in business. Rent, wages, insurance, taxes, utilities, supplies, equipment, and inventory add up pretty quickly. If you only make major purchases from online vendors and expect your LDS to always be there for service, you may be unpleasantly surprised one day when you drive up and the door is locked.

It would make sense to me that something you need to get serviced by your LDS, you should buy from them. Anything else seems fair game for online purchase. I know my LDS will service parts such as regulators or computers and extremely discounted prices if purchased by them with regular maintainence by them.

I have purchased from:

Leisure Pro
Scuba Toys
Divers Direct
Ebay private party -used tank
Dive Right In

I steer away from Craigslist unless it is local which puts me in a very small market due to location.

LDS (both of them) for a lot of reasons. Mostly because I believe in giving them some of my business so they survive. Pretty hard to get air without a compressor and service for my regs. without shipping them off. A big reason was to get contacts with other local divers and to have a technical asset I can go to to ask questions and get some answers. Sure I paid a bit more but I don't buy all my stuff from them.

Most of the dives done locally revolve around one or the other of the LDSs or folks that either work there or are very good friends with those that do. Being in a small isolated town in the desert requires some flexibility and "politics" to some degree.

I had a good experience 1st time ordering from scubatoys. Fast response and quite obliging. And of course the discounts being a forum member and all! Hehehehe!

I prefer "scubastore.com"

They have a lot in stock (less than LeisurePro), and very cheap.

eg mares Icon BC with MRS:

Scubastore.com= USD 478.32 (including shipping to the USA; 4 day delivery)
Leisurepro.com= USD 499.95 (including ground shipping iin USA 5-7 days)
