Ideally, you would want a flat port to work with a macro lens. the dome lessens the magnification of the macro lens. however, if you really do not want to drop more money on another port, you may be able to get away with using the dome so long as the throw of the lens can be accomodated within the dome port (i.e. when operating the lens, the dome is long enough so that the front element does not hit the dome).

The big disadvantage is like I mentioned, the dome lessens the magnification and if you're not careful, you might bump and scratch the dome.

Hey Warren.

I dont mean to hijack this thread folks.

I need some imput on lenses.

What is the best of the two here for the Rebal xti for quality zoom??

ef28-135mm I S U S M standard zoom or...

EF 75-300MM F4-5.6 111 USM Telephoto lens

Thank you!!

Jim, I can't speak to the specific qualities of each lens, but I would think that both zooms might be a bit long for underwater use. Do you have ports that fit either or both lenses?

Jim - those are two very different lenses! Are you using it for UW? If so, I wouldn't bother with the longer one at all...you simply won't gain anything. And double check that your system supports any lens you are going to buy if you're taking it UW -just coz it looks like it should work, doesn't mean it will.

If you're looking for something for land use, pick the one with the range you'll use most - if you're a long shooter, not having the extra reach will annoy the heck out of you if you don't have it.

Head to the Canon forums for great information including archives of photos shot with each lens (it's a sticky at the top of the "Lens" area). You'll also get real world use input - but not from uw users as there aren't many of us over there it seems!
