Hello fellow divers...

Im going back to Bonaire this July....

Last time we stayted at Sanddollar...and can complain about the accomadations....just the food there wasnt that great...

Anyone got any opinions about other hotels that have a better selection of dining options ???

Havent made a decision on where were staying this time....sure could use all of your opinions to help make up our minds...

Thanks!

fwiw - I think the best restaurant on Bonaire is Casablanca. It Rains Fishes is also good, but pricey. Neither is affiliated with a resort though, they're both in town. Donna and Giorgio's for Pizza/Pasta is also very good. It's right before the turnoff going towards the north dive resorts.

We also ate at Zee Zicht, it was average - but we went there late on a Sunday night and caught them right before closing. Lot's of people like City Cafe in town, but I thought it was average. For takeout, Bobbi Jeans BBQ right around the corner from IRF smelled outstanding.

I've heard good things about Chibi Chibi at the Divi also but never ate there. I also liked the restaurant at Capt. Don's (my buddy didn't) but it's kind of Americanized with sort of slow service. Great view and they have a brick pizza oven there also.

Personally I'd stay where you're comfortable and drive for food.

I agree with sjs there are to many good restaurants to be stuck eating at the hotel do a search on my name i have a couple on places to eat. I agree with Casablancas the meats there are the best. Also richards for fish was great.

Heres the link that i was talking about:

Lion's Den at Buddy Dive is excellent. It's on the premises, but not really considered part of the hotel. No room service.

Lions Den at Capt. Dons had actually surprisingly good food. Service was slow at times but overall quality of food was better than expected a few times so worth a visit or two. I thought it was a better than food at Buddy Dive.

The Lion's Den owned and operated by Kirk Gosden was actually the Green Parrot of Sand Dollar fame. After waves destroyed the Green Parrot twice the environmental folks told him not to rebuild there. Something about walk in coolers rolling around on the reef. He built the present Lions Den over the old Bon Bini Dive Shop and was part of Lion's Dive Resort. He is now a part (more or less) of Buddy Dive. Kirt only does dinner and is happy as a lark that he has to work many hours less than he did as a three meal restaurant. He has more time to spend with his lovely wife Rosario and his children. The Lions Den Restaurant is a class act but make sure to get reservations for your favorite table - they go fast.

There are so many wonderful restaurants in Bonaire that it would be impossible to pick a favorite. Bobbie Jan's Barbecue is primo!!!

Bobbie Jansssssss.....yummmmmmm. (weekend only)
Like the others, food at the hotel is not really a concern for me, way too many good places to eat on island. If I had to choose, it would be Lions Dive as well.
Tom why did you have to go and mention the Green Parrot, that was the first place I ate on Bonaire and still tear up when I think of it. I still have drink fish on my TV.

Got back from Bonaire in march. We (12) stayed at the Divi and ate at the buffet the first night and the food wasn't very good. But we ate at Chibi-chibi's for lunch several times and the food was good. I agree that Casablanca is the best place for meat eaters. Richards is very good and has the best chocolate lava cake in the world! Donna & Giorgio's was good but it seamed a bit stuffy for our liking. City cafe is also good.

The Lion's Den owned and operated by Kirk Gosden

I found Kirk an excellent host and chef. My DH was an executive chef for many years and they had long conversations about food. We spent so much time diving that we seldom ventured into town to eat. I didn't see any reason to bother as I found such good food right there. And they have Speckled Hen Ale.

Just returned from Bonaire on Monday place I loved was Pasa Bon the best pizza I have ever ate they make their own sausage and it is great
