Aloha to all the Hawaii Ohana!

I was wondering about what people think is the best handheld/portable GPS for Hawaa (in particular Oahu).

I am new to the whole GPS thing, in fact I am seeking advice before I make a purchase.

So:

What are the best handhelds for use here?
Do they require additional purchases like map cards etc.? What are people using?

I am hoping for some basic advice, something inexpensive at an entry level. I came across the wannadive site and it has all the coordinates for the site I like to dive.

All advice is most sincerely appreciated!

Jason:)

any of the garmins are good..
many have pre-loaded depth maps (in addition to the road maps)..
mine did..
but, if they don't.. my buddy easily found maps on the net for free (he had an older garmin).

Dear VBlueV

In particular, which Garmin do you have? I would like to get the same one if it works well, espcially with the pre-loaded depth maps.

Thanks

Jason

GPSmap 478.
medium size color screen, easy to use, accurate..
and has kept me away from shallow waters.

however, it doesn't necessarily meet all your criteria..
else, 'would've mentioned it the first time.
