Hi guys,

I'm planning my first trip to Sipadan this coming Friday and will be staying at the Kapalai resort. I've tried to search for threads regarding Sipadan on this board to get some idea of the place.

From what I've seen, some people do recommend to dive the following:
1. Early morning dive at Sipadan to see parrot bumphead
2. Mabul for muck diving
3. Turtle cave
4. Barracuda school

Of course I understand that nothing can be guaranteed but are there any other MUST SEE or recommendations other than the above.

Thanks

Just dived in Sipadan last week. South Point was rather disappointing, but I did see a number of black tip sharks on the sea bed. Quite easy to capture their photos.

Mid Reef is for large gorgonian sea fans and decent corals. Did see hundreds of barracuda at Barracuda Point but they did not do the tornado-thingy.

Don't forget the Jetty Drop-off, it is world's best jetty dive.

Yep...talk to kapalai they should be glad to ursher you for a slightly earlier than usual morning dive to catch the bumphead departing in the schools.

You can also consider, south point, hanging gardens, barracuda point. Not forgetting the shark point as well as the eel garden which is pretty close to each other.

SOuth Pt and barracuda point you should not miss the schools of barracudas, occassion grey reef shark.

south point or hanging gardens...if and I mean if you are really lucky a manta, a couple of hammer or simply nothing special but just the garden with still a vast of marine life available...

Sipadan has great variety - suggest reading up on the dive sites and maybe you can request your preferences to the team at Kapalai (a very nice place to stay over the water). Have a great trip!

My all time favourite (after 6 trips) is Barracuda Point - there's a bit of a drift dive along the way. Lots of fun even if you don't see the barracudas.

Hi folks,
This message is to inform that with effect from 1st April. National
Security Council has appointed Sabah Park to manage and Monitor the entry
Of visitors entering to Sipadan Island, Sabah Park been appointed to collect the fee of RM 40 or USD 11 per day per pax visiting Sipadan Island.
Please view above attachment file a letter from Sabah Park to this effect.

Yep, RM40 per day. So if you stay a week and dive 6 days at Sipadan, you will need to pay RM200 (US$ 55) more than previously. Hopefully won't break the bank. Personally I was amazed the fee was so low. But let's just hope that the extra cash is used wisely....
