Hello

I'm leaving for Bonaire in 11 days. :D

What Dive sites should I be sure not to miss?
My dive buddy and I both have Advanced C-Cards,
and this will be our first time doing dives on our own
(plus a few Boat Dives with Don's Habitat).

Does anyone have a site with their reviews on
different dive sites in Bonaire or is there a post
on this board already? (I've been looking here).

Thanks, Pam

My wife and I were there 4 weeks ago. Guess I would have to say I didn't have a less than wonderful dive there. My two favorites were 1. Karpata 2. Kline Bonaire (by boat) site: South Bay. Take an u/w camera, absolutely a must. What I should have done was call the kids and tell them to sell the house and just stayed there. Life is so short and the SI between now and when I will get there next waaaay toooo loooong. Enjoy th visual feast :)

Bonaire is a "Diver's Paradise"
Be sure to dive the wreck the Hilma Hooker. She's a 250 ft freighter and lies right off shore just north of Angel city reef.
One of my favorite dives was one called " Pink Sands" If you pick up the sand while your down there, and rub it in your hands you will see it is indeed pink.
Another cool dive is '1000 steps'. It's actually 67 steps down to the water if you do it as a shore dive. Shore diving is abundant so you can Dive Dive Dive!
Have fun!

You do not want to miss Webers Joy or Oil slick reef. Both are shore dives in north. For a nice night dive try buddys reef.

Bonaire....whimper whimper..I want to go!

The Helma Hooker is a nice dive from shore that we usally do once or twice each visit. A don't miss is one of the double reefs on the south end. Angle City and Alice in Wonderland which are just past the Hooker are really nice. The first reef slopes to a 50 to 60 ft wide sand channel at about 60 ft and then rises back to about 40 ft in some neat coral heads that kind of look like big mushrooms (hince Alice in Wonderland). I also like Windsock which is at the end of the airport runway. Lots of trees to campout under between dives. Don't overlook the reef in frount of Cap Don's. There is a cool wreck straight out from the dock. Nite dives are good off Cap Don's as well. Don't be suprised by Charlie, a 6 to 7 ft tarpon who loves to escort divers on nite dives in the area. He is big and un-nerving but friendly.

Oh yea, there is a book avalible at most of the dive shops called something like "Bonaire diving made Easy" (figures my copy is not on my desk). It is a paperback and sells for about $10. It's describes all of the dive sites on Bonaire and how to get to them as well as rateing them for difficulty, a must have.

Enjoy your trip, I have a return trip planned for June.
