I bought a used wing on ebay. Turns out there are a few small leaks in it near the top. None of this was mentioned in the auction. I've contacted the seller to see if we can work the problem out.

What would be the best course of action to take in this situation?

Refund for money? Get the wing repaired and have the seller pay for it?

Note: If the seller had mentioned in the auction that the wing was leaking, I wouldn't have purchased it in the first place. I also pmed the seller specifically asking if there was anything wrong with the wing and I was told there were no problems with it.

Here's a link to the auction page for reference.
Halcyon Pioneer 36 single wing scuba diving - eBay (item 270534010745 end time Feb-25-10 18:32:36 PST)

First contact the seller and discuss your options with them. But then if that doesn't work you can open a dispute on ebay saying the item was not as described. Or if you paid through paypal you can do the same. Paypal is quite good at helping and giving advice in such situations.

Edit: Also look at this link http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/buy/item-not-received.html

Option 1. See what the cost would be for a fix, then determine if it is worth it.
Option 2. Get full refund and then buy new.

The seller may not have known about the holes, but then maybe...?
As with anything, buyer beware.

Good luck.

Not really. If someone sells you something that is not as described, the buyer has legal recourse to get their money back.

The wing in question is a Halcyon pioneer wing. I contacted Halcyon to see how much it would cost for repairs. From the response I got, I understood it to mean that they can't repair the wing b/c of safety and liability reasons but the man who responded mentioned something about the rf-welded seams having a lifetime warranty or something like that. Need to ask him some questions about it before I decide what to do next.

If there are truly 'a few' - not just one - small leaks, your best course of action is to return the wing, and request a refund - including the price of shipping it back. Red flags all over this one. Better to move on and let someone else deal with it.

I recently bought a backpack that the seller had described wrong and if you notify ebay they will contact the seller if he wont work with you. If the seller wont refund your money, as in my case, ebay will refund you the money and they charge the seller. Ebay will advise you to send the item back to the seller using their ups tracking info and once it is confirmed delivery is complete you will get a credit on paypal. So in short I say contact ebay.

I submerged the wing in my bathtub and found three distinct holes where the air was coming out.

damn... and here I thought i had found such a great deal :shakehead:.

You interpreted it correctly. H won't repair wing bladders, and since the Pioneer doesn't have an outer covering, it won't be repaired at the factory.

The reason for this is that pressure is pushing outward on the wing, and a patch would have to be on the outside. Every time you fill your wing, it would push on the patch. Tires, on the other hand, are repaired from the inside.

You spent about $190 for a used wing on Ebay.
Another option would have been to spend $10 more to get a brand new HOG 32-lb. lift wing which comes with a manufacturer's warranty.

Good luck with settling the issue with the seller. The listing stated "no returns," but in this case the seller should make things right one way or another. It's not a good thing that he/she has a record of only 2 positive transactions on Ebay, though.
