Looking for backup lights and wanting something shaped like the Scout. Actually, I think the Mini-Scout would work better with my configuration (photographer).

I know there are other options, maybe even better ones, but I mention the Scout because it is the shape I want and the c-batteries.

I saw some pics comparing various lights at
http://www.divernet.com/equipment/lamps2006/lamps2.shtml

The hotspot on the tektite excursion looks decent, but one can only tell so much from a photo on the web.

And personal experience you can share re quality, value, etc. would be appreciated.

Any of these are Scout-shaped:

Gulftex Photon Torpedo http://www.cnsales.net/photontorpedopage.htm
Heser-BackUp http://www.heser-backup.de/backup_en.html
MAL-Lighting µHLD1 http://www.mal-lighting.com/html/homeeng.html
selected! Solaris 1.0 http://www.selected-tools.com/solaris1.html

I'm not aware of another 2-cell Mini-Scout style light though... Dive Rite does make a similarly shaped light called the Delrin Tec (halogen and LED) but it takes 4 AA batteries.

Check out the thread below also:

thanks Vie... really appreciated. I had looked for threads before I posted and was showing 3 pages worth (the one you linked not being among them). Now I discover that was because my thread view parameters were only set for the last month.

I will check out the manufacturer links you provided as well, and thanks again for the help!

I have a standard Scout and quite enjoy it.

I have 2 Photon Torpedoes and they performed flawlessly, nevertheless my next ones will be the Heser-back up lights.
I saw them in the water and they are very bright light and in addition they are exceptionally solid.

I am also using PT, Scout, and DR Mini one. In the size wise, DR MINI is great and solid enough. Yes, it is using four AA battery though. It is a backup battery, not primary. I don't think its burn time matter that much.

If your primary goes while you're as far back in a cave as you were planning to get, I'm sure you'd think that burn time on a backup was pretty important...

Holy crap those Heser lights are 159 euros = ~$200USD.

Another vote for the PT. I don't know if there's a 'mini' version, as I have two of the standard 3-cell ones - but they're close to bulletproof.

They don't have Mini verstion. Chuck plans to launch the eLed version sometime this year....

Actually, there is another mini version... Salvo Back up light or Princeton Surge light (oops.... It isn't DIR light).....
