Ran across these numbers in a microbiology textbook I'm considering adopting for my class. While not directly marine related, it bears on the subject of conservation. These numbers are to produce one kilogram of edible protein
Spirulina algae requires 0.6 square meters of land, 2100 liters of water and a total energy input of 35,000,000 kJ
Corn requires 22 square meters of land, 12,500 liters of water and a total energy input of 117,000,000 kJ
Grain Fed Beef 190 square meters of land, 105,000 liters of water and a total energy input of 4,560,000,000 kJ
will did more research into these numbers, but definitely
Food for thought.
