We did an 8-dive trip with Huracan the last week of April. Sights dove were Long Caye Wall, Silver Cave, unknown, three spots in Half Moon Caye - Rollercoaster, Half Moon Caye Wall, Playground, - Blue Hole, and the Aquarium. All but the dive I can't remember the name were excellent dives. We saw several reef sharks on almost every dive, saw spotted eagle rays on two of the dives (Silver Cave and Aquarium), barracuda on most dives, cartoonish sized groupers especially the dives in Half Moon Caye, an occasional turtle or two, lots of other rays, some really big crabs and lobsters, and tarpon. Vis was great and the reefs were in very good condition, colorful, interesting formations, several swim-thrus. Water temp was 82F/28C. Our best dive was probably the Aquarium, which was spectacular. The 3 dives in Half Moon Cay also were great.

Blue Hole was an ok dive IMO. We saw one shark and one barracuda and that was about it. The wall is kind of cool and it is a little eerie looking into the black abyss as it appears bottomless. But overall, my gut feeling was it would not be worth a long boat ride to see it. Huracan is about 10-15 minutes from the Blue Hole so that was fine. But a long boat ride, not worth it.

We stayed with Huracan because I wanted to be close to the dive sites and they were great. Super organized, friendly, helpful, took care of everything. You definitely feel you are on vacation. It's about a 2 hour boat ride to their resort from Belize City, which was fine. There is not really much cover on their boat so be prepared for the sun if you stay with them. It's a small resort of 5 rooms so you are not diving with a lot of other divers. Because they are so close to all the dive sites, we returned to the resort after each dive for our SI except for the Half Moon Caye dives. There we did the SI on Half Moon Caye, had a BBQ there, was really nice.

The resort is pretty rustic but they do a good job of making you comfortable. But there is no A/C in the rooms so it can get kind of hot and there is nothing they can do about the bugs. Food was fine. We dove at 8 am, came back for breakfast, dove again at 11 am, came back for lunch, and did a final dive at 3 pm. There is another resort on that little island but they never responded to my attempts to book with them. Their boat was smaller and more open so not sure what it was like diving with them. Their location, however, was better than Huracan as it was right on the water so you had some sort of breeze most days. Huracan is set back on the island, away from the water, and the breeze doesn't reach it.

This was my first time to Belize. I'd consider going back to see some of the other dive sites or return to Huracan. Definitely worth going to.

Thanks for your report. I am going to Belize in January and staying a week at Blackbird and then a week at Huracan. I haven't been since I got certfied for OW i during cOVID when I stayed at Ramons on Ambergris Caye.

The diving at Huracan was very easy diving so you will have no problem getting back into it.
