Hi,

Anyone can provide advise if i were to plan a trip to Belize and Cozumel from Dec10 onwards?

Understand the hurricane season supposedly ends at the end of November, but with the current situations... ... anyone with better knowledge and understanding of the storms and their forecasts care to share their advise?

Any contribution will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

One is a nation (Belize), the other an island off of Mexico.

Cozumel got smacked pretty hard by Fred Flintsone's wife, Wilma. Anyone there accepting your reservations? That would be a good indicator.

Belize, for most of us, is a serries of small islands (or "cays") that have little going other than a dive op and sandy beach. (Some may "dive" Belize for Belize City... what were you planning?) Most should be up and running.

The season ends, but the tropical rains linger on. Rainy season can drag on until Feb-March, one never knows how much rain or how hard- but it will continue to rain.

Any contribution will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Not sure where you were headed with this question, but if you want "storm proof", go to Bonaire (A-B-C) Islands.

If you wanted to know how it's going to be (weatherwise) from Belize North to Cozumel? Spotty rainy and sunshine, but always nice to be there!

The phrase "you can't get there from here" comes to mind. Even ignoring the hurricane Wilma disaster, in the Cancun/Cozumel area, there are problems with your travel plans. Commercial airlines do not fly between those two destinations. You could try a very circuitous flight plan, via Mexico city; or you could fly back to the US (via Houston or Miami or Dallas) in transit between your two desired destinations. Alternatively, for the more adventurous (with considerable time), you could take a bus from Playa Del Carmen to the border, make crossing arrangements and then take a different bus to your final destination within Belize (probably via Belize City). Then again, you could charter a private small plane. Unfortunately, that would be costly and most of the charter companies don't want to do it. It appears that tourism activity "between" those two countries is virtually non-existent. How can two countries be so close together, yet so far apart?!?!

Regarding how to get there, air flights are quite simple.

I am either doing a multi-city flight booking or a round trip from usa-bze, and an internal bze-cun flight. It seems the second option is cheaper after some research.

Question is, do you folks think it to be a safe period for diving and visiting these 2 places from Dec10 onwards?

I wish ya luck, but I think you're going to be a bit disappointed with Cozumel. Wilma tore this place up and I don't really see it being back to good shape till late spring.

I just returned from a week of diving in Belize. We were originally scheduled to dive in Cozumel, but Wilma forced a change in plans. The visibility was still recovering from the effects of Wilma, even that far from where it hit. The diving was really good and the amount of life we saw was amazing. We had probably 40-60’ vis, but the normal vis is supposed to be 100’+. The dive operator we dove with said that their busy season starts in late November. It is hard to imagine that Cozumel will be able to recover by early December, but I would imagine that the diving in Belize would be very good then. We dove with Amigos Del Mar out of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye and I would highly recommend them.

Thanks for the input!
Hmm... any other places to recommend on top of Belize?

By the way, do you have the web site for Amigos? Ok, do you book them for the dives online or kinda do a walk in booking? Also, i will be going by myself does that make any difference in the diving cost?
