I am a beginner and am looking to dive 10 or so times in the next year. Will dive in the springs of Florida, few places around Panama City/Destin, and going to Bonaire next July.

I can get this BC for $203 after tax.

Great deal on Cressi Sub Aqualight R BCD from Divers-Supply.com

I tried it on and it felt comfortable. I prefer the Jacket style BC over the Back Inflated. Also tried a Hybrid and liked it as well.

Anyone use this BC or think this will be a good starter BC? Also, I don't object to paying up to $450 for a BC if there are "bells and whistles" that I may need but don't know about right now.

OR is renting BC's the way to go?

Thanks for all your help.

My wife went with this one and loves it.

The way it typically works is, the more you know the FEWER bells and whistles you want!

If you are just going down to cozumel and whatnot a few times a year, your selection will probably be fine.

A lot of people on this board - myself included - prefer some sort of back inflate BC. They may not always feel as good in the showroom or hug you at the surface, but they are wonderful during your dive when you are horizontal.

My personal opinion would be to contact the guys at scubatoys.com and speak with them about the recreational zeagle BCs and about the type of diving you plan on doing.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks for the response. I wish there was a place that I could try these out. I'd hate to spend $500 and if I hate it, then I can't return it for a full discount.

I too agree with the buy used for the first one or two. Try out different type and styles. Look here on ScubaBoard and eBay. I finally settled on a DiveRite Transpac and Venture wing.

I would give a back wing setup a try before i bought a jacket - i dove a jacket for years until i tried a friends wing setup - now i own a dive rite and a zeagle.....which ever you like go with it, but IMO i would try several different ones.

You'll find that over the years you will have a few bc's in the garage to choose from along with a few regs, fins, masks, etc..LOL Good luck in your quest.
