Hi everyone!

I've been religiously reading the forums for several months now while I plan our trip to Ambergris Caye, Belize. Wanted to say that almost all the posts I've read have been constructive, optimistic, helpful and welcoming. So many topics have been covered that only now have I found a unique question to ask in the Belize section.

Please keep up the good work!

Christina you'll love the diving at Ambergris Cay but don't miss the Blue Hole! Don't miss the ruins topside if you get a little time.

We looked at Liveaboards but there were not in our budget at this time. Especially with flight prices continuously escalating, a simple beach side cabana in San Pedro near the dive shops became very alluring. Diving is the priority and I've put feelers out for a very ambitious and optimistic schedule while we are there.

Everyone keeps talking about the Blue Hole. Other than the "been there, done that" bragging rights and the lighthouse atoll, the Blue Hole itself does not appear to be too interesting. I've read many accounts of the spectacular 2 dives after the Blue Hole, but from what I can tell, the Blue Hole proper did not impress many divers.

Thoughts? Anyone? Would you do a dive just because it's on some list of must-dives despite the inferior lighting (due to mostly early morning dives causing a somewhat gloomy cast inside), possible absence of marine life, and the high cost? The possibility is there.

Someone, quick, talk me into it! Maybe I'm missing something?

welcome aboard
