Hey folks,

I picked up a shore dive guide by Jerry Shine and saw a dive site at Beavertail I had never seen before. I went searching for it and was unable to locate the site off parking lot #2. Anyone know this site?

Just walk down the 20' wide grassy path to the ocean from the p-lot. 3 and 4 look better though from what I saw though I never dove them. 1 and 2 are long walks and difficult slopes in my opinion.

Beavertail is not an easy site to dive. The East side IMO is an advanced dive due to the difficulty and danger of the getting into and out of the water as well as rapidly changing weather conditions. The West side is easier but does intail long walks down then up steep hills. It is a worth the effort on a good day/night. Don't know where the site you asked about is.

It can be a very nice dive in calm conditions. There are the flukes from an old Navy anchor and an underwater tunnel formed from one rock laying over another. The remains of the H.F. Payton (1859)are nearby as well. Be careful as the swell can make the spot treacherous. Also be careful of the Black Algae on the rocks. The stuff is like grease. I have always dived it from the boat.

When I was there last summer there was a sign in P-lot #2 that said "No Diving." After looking at the site I thought it probably referred to diving head first into the water off the rocks and maybe not scuba diving.

You are correct. There was a gentleman that was killed a few years ago at Ft Wetherill while diving(as in cliff diving not scuba) and several have gone in off Beavertail. I live in jamestown and have a 16 year old son that I am always trying to warn him about not diving off the rocks.
