For those that don't know, New England got belted with snow again this weekend. I drove up to Killington Vermont on friday afternoon, and arrived at 4:15. It had been flurrying a little on the drive up, but nothing much. By the time I went back out to my car at 4:30, I had about 1/2 inch already.

Went out drinking, left around midnight. My car was covered with about 7 inches or so. Was up about 6:00 and went out to dig out my car... another 7 inches. It snowed all day as well; bushman cleaned off another 3 or 4 inches off the car.

Got up today and it was still cloudy. As we approached the mountain, you could see a few trails lighted up with sun, but the cloud cover was really low. It looked a little odd.

Got myself registered, and got on the lifts about 8:20. Riding up the superstar quad [for those that know Killington], we broke through the clouds into blue skies.

I stood on top of superstar for probably close to 10 minutes, looking around and taking in what is most likely the most breathtaking thing about skiing... when you can look out as far as the eye can see, and there isn't a cloud above you, and all the trees have the pure white hues that you can get after a heavy snowfall, and all the tree covered peaks are sticking up through the cottonball-like clouds.

Unfortunately I wasn't free to get back to the car until 11:30, and by that point the skies got some clouds in them, and the lower clouds had turned to the more grayer foggy like clouds, so a picture wouldn't have been stunning enough to warrent getting my camera out.

So we all know of the beauty you can find in the ocean... but what about the breathtaking scenes you have found in non-diving related situations... let us all know!

Here is the real test....If you actually thought you were skiing fresh powder on the east coast......It was a dream.

It sounds like a sight to behold. It has always been overcast or raining when I was there.

Although we here in Wisconsin have barely had any snow so far this year, I do appreciate the beauty of freshly fallen snow. How about those sights on a cross-country ski trail illuminated by a full moon at midnight?

ahhh how lovely,
sounds like someone who never had to deal with the snow. I grew up at 6000' near lake tahoe, and when I went home for new years... I was there 3 days and had to snowblow the driveway twice, once to get in and once to get out. I'll take the warm sunny tropics any day.

Snow??? BAH!!!

Christmas Day dropped 2.5 feet of snow in Northeast PA. Four girlfriends & I drove up to my Mt. house Dec 30th for a yr end girls retreat. Couple had a rough yr - one separated, one's spouse committed suicide, loss of employment, the usual troubles. We cranked up the hot tub, jumped in, watched the stars move through the night sky & contemplated thoughts of the universe. Around midnight a herd of deer came walking down the street - 5 or 6 doe, just strolling along, doing deer things, stopped to check us out.

New Years Eve morn dawned damp & foggy. We sat around drank coffee until 10 when the fog burned off. Turned into a cloudless day, about 40 degrees, no wind. Jump in the car, hit the Mt., & spent the next 5 hrs going up & down - no crowds, no lift lines, everyone very festive, no worries that day, just hanging out with friends. Tons of snow, all the trees were still covered, the pines with the baughs hanging low. It was great, I haven't had skiis on for 3 yrs! Jumped in the car at 4:30, look out the front window & a doe is staring back at me. She was just wandering around the parking lot. I love those big soft eyes! (And they taste yummy, too!) Between the beautiful scenary & the good friends, it was one of those Kodak moments.

Sorry Dectek - it wasn't even remotely like powder - it was still that heavy NE junk. But much like our diving - if you can ski here, you can ski anywhere! Get your skiis out, they got dumped another 10 inches over the weekend & more on the way.

Being that I live and work in Vermont I appreciate you all coming up and supporting our economy. It has been a good year for snow. So I guess I'll make enough money to go diving in Cozumel in March.

When I think of beautiful sights, two words immediately pop to mind -- Aurora Borealis. I would give anything to see the Northern Lights in action. Talk about The Greatest Show on Earth!
