we're in the process of choosing where to go on a trip this summer and are highly considering little cayman. we realize this destination is all about the diving, which is fine for us. but i was wondering..........what about beaches.........are there some nice beaches to relax/swim on when you're not diving?

Most of the resorts (LCBR, Conch Club, The Club, Southern Cross, Paradise Condos, are on a shallow lagoon. It's a great stretch of beach for taking a long walk and exploring, and the beaches at the resorts are narrow but fine for relaxing. (There is a narrow strip of sand most of the way around the island.) Not as good for swimming in most places. For example in front of Little Cayman Beach Resort it's shallow with lots of turtle grass and you never see anyone swimming, though that might be partly because most people feel sufficiently waterlogged from diving. I suppose you could. One thing you could do is kayak out to Owen Island which out a ways in the lagoon, I've never gotten around to it but I think swimming and snorkeling might be a better option out there. I've always heard Point of Sand at the far east end of the island is a good beach with snorkeling but you have to get there, long bike ride or hitch a ride from someone. I'm sure there are other beach spots to go if you know them.

Smith cove, south of Georgetown is pretty awesome. We heard Rum Point is cool, but never made it out there. If you want to check out the island or go to nice restaurants at night, I highly recommend getting a car online on Orbitz. Taxis are very, very expensive. Making a reservation online will be much cheaper than getting a car from Andy's Rentals once you're on the island.

Rum Point ansd Smith's are on GC, not LC.

Pirates Point has a very nice beach with palapas and hammocks. You can actually snorkel off the little pier. Of course the food and diving are incredible.

Point of Sand is a small beach area but you need a bike/vehicle to get there, I've snorkeled there but the diving is so good off Jackson's bight and Bloody Bay....why would you want to?

thanks, point of sand beach looks good. how long of a bike ride from LCBR?
