Not that I am aware of in Nags Head. There are other near to beach wrecks on Hatteras Island, but I haven't been able to make it out there yet.

Not that I know of also. I am sure there are tons, but none of which are diveable. They are probably too broken up or covered. Also, I inquired about beach dives last week and the shop owners have all agreed that it is still too early. The temp is in the 40s, with almost no viz. If you are thinking about going, I would hold off another month or so.

Shore dives off of Nags Head or Hatteras? Did I understand this correctly? Why bother...go out with the Outer banks dive folks and have a good time with some proper wreck diving...good crew, good boat, good wrecks. Last time I was out...last year...great amount of sea life...Sand tiger sharks, schools of spade fish, barracuda etc.

Let's see...

1. You can set your own schedule, or barely have one.

2. Any number can play.

3. Lunch with the kids or other nondivers of your choice.

4. If some in the party are late, they can catch up without delaying the group.

5. If some in the group have commitments that force them to leave early, the rest of the group can remain.

6. Broken gear means someone jumps in a car to get it taken care of without sitting out the rest of the day.

Any good Beach dives in the Nags Head area besides the Huron and Triangle wrecks?

A while back there was some discussion on TDS about the Clythia but nothing came of it. The wreck is near the VA/NC border. There aren't any roads on the NC side and a state park on the VA side to access is pretty limited.

The Huron was buried last summer and from what I've heard it still is. Check with the Outer Banks Dive Center, they have guided dives to the Huron (when it's uncovered) and the Triangle Wrecks every day so they'd be a good source for info on the current conditions.

Well if anyone hears of any good possibilities. We are in Chesapeake...just waiting for some good diving. Shore diving is good because it is hard! That surface swim isn't easy :) Plus you can schedule it yourself.

Are the triangle wrecks usually uncovered?
Until last summer the Huron was usually uncovered. ;)

I talked to the guys at OBX Dive Center about a week or so ago and they said the Triangle Wrecks are uncovered.

The triangle wrecks were uncovered last year - quite a nice dive really. I'm planning on doing it with my wife in a couple of weeks if you want to tag along/make up a 4.
