Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has any dates for the annual beach cleanups sponspered throughout the country? I'm particulary looking for any information for anything around Tampa, Florida.

Although I would love to do a dive cleanup, I'm sponsoring a high school marine biology club and want to get my students involved. I'm just having trouble finding the dates.

If not, I'll just get them to go on our own.

Thanks.

Last week I called the Broward (at Turtle Watch) and the Florida HQ for the Ocean Conservacy regarding the Coastal Cleanup on September 18. They are only doing waterfront cleanups, and do not get involved in any off shore cleanup.

I did ask if we could organize our own, they replied we could, but we could not affiliate with them in any way.

They did share that Dixie Divers/Lady Go Diver, and a scuba clubs in Hollywood and Palm Beach had also called to ask and were told the same thing.

Sounds like a niche that can be organized. We've got an incredible conduit here at SB in that thousands of divers visit the site, many of whom are affiliated with shops and some of them are even members of organizations which promote oceanic and reef conservancy & education. Perhaps we can attract their attention.

What a great idea! It's work but it's so much fun at the same time.
