So, my husband and I are doing an ascent today after our second dive. We've finished our 10 foot stop, and are hanging at about 5' for a while, doing a real slow final ascent. Suddenly, my husband spits out his reg and begins moving his hand horizontally back and forth in front of his face. I was kind of surprised, because we hadn't discussed doing any drills on this dive, but I obediently grabbed the long hose and deployed it and shoved my reg in his face.

He was scratching his moustache.

He was pretty surprised, too, but obediently put the reg in his mouth. We looked puzzled at each other and proceeded to surface.

The power of conditioning . . .

very nice!!

it's good when the "real thing" goes like a drill

one "bad habit" i've picked up lately is extremely slow ascents, particulary
from 30 feet up.... =)

my non-DIRF buddies usually just ascend and wait for me topside. so far
nobody has complained

Too funny!

That's a great story. Made me laugh out loud....I needed that.

Thanks.

:hmmm: I leave my reg in when I scratch my moustache?

Guess you need to work out the hand signal: "I'm okay, just scratching."

Uh, you don't complain at them for leaving you?

I thought out of air was across the throat?

Like the one where you make a circle with your index finger and thumb with the other 3 fingers straight :D

But why? It's good practice for both of them and TS&M did the right thing when she saw what she thought was a buddy OOA ;)

Well, when somebody spits out their reg and starts moving their hand back and forth horizonally in front of them, are YOU going to take the time to figure out what part of their anatomy they are moving their hand in front of?

Nope, you did good. Wonder why he spit his reg out?

So did I! So you can imagine my surprise at having the reg stuffed into my mouth!

Oh, and normally I do keep the reg in when the lip itches, but this time it just seemed to be right thing to do! I'm the husband which means I was wrong again.
