Hi again Becky,

I use a SeaQuest BC with back lift. You can also find a couple of women's BC reviews at http://www.womeninscuba.com. I believe there are reviews for the Xtreme Elle and the Diva.

I found my BC just by trying on different styles and brands and choosing the one that felt the most comfortable. I do know that quite a few of the major manufacturers are starting to produce more equipment designed to suit the needs of female divers and we will be doing more equipment reviews in the future so keep checking back.

Cheers,

Hello Becky,

I've only been diving myself since January. I decided to get a lot of equipment upfront and learn with it so that when I qualified I wouldn't have to get to grips with new equipment.

I have an Ocean Reef BC, I'm not sure of the exact model but could get you more details if you're interested. I find it very easy to use and comfortable. It isn't the most expensive BC around either and it has lasted during my training in UK waters!! I've been on one diving holiday and another is planned for September. So far so good!!

Let me know if you want any info, and I'll get it for you.

Hi Sally,

I did the same thing you did and purchased my equipment upfront so I could go through my classes using my own gear.

I would be interested in finding out which Ocean Reef BC you have and any other information you have about it. I am always on the look out for new gear and I like to find out what makes a person like their BC. Was it the first one you tried or did you try on several and then pick the Ocean Reef?

Cheers,

Hi Lady,

I was wondering if you have had any trouble with the integrated weight system. I have heard good things and bad things about it and I was wondering if you could tell me a little more about how it works and what you like about it?

Thanks for the information.

Cheers,

The weight integration is great. There are 2 "weight packs" on the front of the BC. I carry 6 pounds there (3 each side). If you were to get into trouble, they have a quick release mechanism, basically velcro that strips out.

There are also 2 pockets in the back, however these would not be easy to ditch if you had to. I think you could carry all the weight you probably would need in the front, and use the back pockets for carrying stuff.

In my limited experience, I think it is a good design. I've used a few other BC's that required weight belts, and I have to say I like this system. But that is just my humble opinion, and I know there are other women out there who can probably better speak on this subject!

cheers...

Hi Lady,

That sounds like a good system. The setup I am using now requires a weight belt but I don't really care for the fact that at depth the belts slide around and you usually end up with the clasp in the middle of you back. I use the soft pellet system, which seems to be better than the hard clunky weight that end up bruising your hips, but I have been thinking a lot about the integrated systems. Thanks for the information.

If anyone else has any input, I would love to hear from you.

Cheers,

Heya gadiver,

I was wondering if you know what the replacement cost are if you had to ditch those weights in an emergency? Not that any amount of money is worth your life but I just thought that it might actually be a good selling point and a good economical choice if replacing those weights are actually cheaper than losing a full weight belt.

Although I must say I have yet to not be able to recover a weight belt and have even found a few extras from others that must not have been so fortunate.

I'm not sure what the velcro inserts would run to replace, but I've seen them at the dive shop, and will check next time I'm there.

The weights themselves are just the standard clunky kind that run around $5 to $6 each. I am also going to look at the pellet kind (not sure what they call them, but they remind me of bean bags!)
