Hey! I'm a northwest diver (cold water) and I am getting ready to begin buying the expensive gear. I'm torn between getting the BCD(Tripple L Orion) first or saving up and getting a dry suit first. The BCD is only about $150 and the Harvy's dry suit i want to get is $1000, the question is, should I save to get the dry suit first or get the BC and wait a little longer to get the suit? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks alot!

-side note: is the Orion to good to be true? Any orion divers comments would be awsome, thanks again!

I've read that review and done quite a bit of research on the Orion, what BC would you suggest saving up for (Brand, Model, $ range) ? I found it for$150 at the triple L website

I suggest:

1st - dive computer
2nd - reg
3rd - B/C w/ back inflation
4th - thermal suit

If you travel to the tropics, you probably would not need a thermal suit, other than a thin one like dive skins or 3mms. Therefore if you get your computer, reg, and B/C first, you are then ready to travel to warm water.

The closest and least expensive warm water diving to you is Baja California Mexico.

oh, is there a similar post already here, I'm kinda new, and I thought I had read all of the posts about the Orion, I was just asking if there were anymore opinions out there. If there is already a post regarding the sequence of gear buying, I apologize for being redundant. Any advice, even a link to another thread would be helpful, thanks

my advice would be to save up for a better BC and get the drysuit later.

Here's a review of the Orion:

Where'd you find it for $150?
Has the dive industry brainwashed you into thinking you can't get a quality BC for $150? The reason that the Orion is just like the Poseidon is that they are made by the same plant and are the same BC.

Buy a BC first simply because you can dive without a dry suit but I wouldn't dive without a BC. BTW, how is a $150 BC vs a $1000 dry suit an eithor/or choice?

Its an either or choice because I just graduated college so funds are kinda limited, but the dive bugs got me and I really want to get some new gear. Thus creating a choice of either buying a BC now to feed the need and then saving that much longer to get the dry suit, or saving up and getting the dry suit a little sooner and waiting a little longer for the BC. If I get the BC now I can begin diving with it within the month, otherwise I will have to continue renting for a while. And I just want to make sure that I am not wasting my money on the Orion.

Yea I guess they must have. That must be it.

All those people who drive Acura's instead of Honda's must be brainwashed too since they're the same car. Lexus too.

v_1matst: what BC would you then suggest so that I can get the biggest bang for my buck?
