I am currently diving a Scubapro glideplus BCD. This summer I am planning on taking a deep divers course. I am wondering what BCD I should go with that would be great for technical deep dives as well as recreational diving.

Any suggestions and comments would be appreciated.

My opinion on this will be, buy two. (in my case more than two) Some folks think that a Back Plate & wing works for everything. And it can. However, I cannot think of a recreational BCD that will work for and serious Technical diving. Too much hassle to try to fiddle around making a rec BCD work for tech, But I wouldn't do it. I have heard of a few Rec/Tech versions out there, but again, you are not saving $$$. I own a SeaQuest Balance rec BCD and Several different BP&Wing setups. Both single and double tanks.

Wow, the thread's been here for a whole hour and a half and the bp/w guys haven't hijaked the thread yet....(J/K) :eyebrow:

Might look into Zeagles' stuff, not true tech but not completely rec either...I mean their BC's like the Ranger, Ranger LTD and the Tech.

Now of course, just like every opinion you're about to get here, is going to be biased, just like mine.

Anyway, good luck.

I think the closest you will get at the moment is an OMS IQ pack with a good bladder and STA.. You can later just add a Backplate to it..

A good second choice is the oxycheq A-Pack..

The way I would set it up at the moment would be an OMS IQ pack, with an Oxycheq low profile STA, and Oxycheq 50lb doubles wing.. The just add the BP when the need arises..

I own Both oms and oxycheq wings and the 50lb doubles wing from oxycheq has great characteristics.. 50lbs of lift may not be perfect for all tech diving, but will cover a reasonable range of needs (for those in colder climates where alot of lead is needed to sink, the 70lb is a better choice)..

And, that is what I did....

Another option would be Dive Rite's Transpac.

That would probably be my third choice (I used to recommend it as an alternate to the IQ pack until the Oxycheq A-pack came out (it has more adjustments and seems to be more confortable), but definately a solid product..

I dive a Zeagle backplate and Wing for both Rec and Tec.
I have two wings when I am Rec diving I use the tiny 34lb wing with a single tank.
When i am using twins I just swap the bladder over to the dual 55lb wing.

You can of course do this with all Zeagle BCD,s as the system is fully modular

Cheers
