Yeah, i know everyone here likes the wing better, but I am sold on a BC.
I am considering a Sherwood Avid. Anyone have any experience with that particular BC? Any comments?

First, a wing is a BC.

Second, I don't prefer a wing. The type of BC is not important at all. As long as they are well designed, one will work as well as another.

Third, that particular BC doesn't appear to be very well designed. It's bulky and not very streamlined. Being streamlined is very important in current.

Don't like it at all, to much stuff hanging out in the breeze, it looks to big and fluffy, a classic poodle jacket. N

BCD? We don't need no stinking bcd! Back in the day we just used bungee cords and duct tape. I found a source for vintage bungees and duct tape on Ebay, and that is still all I use! Don't waste your money with that new fangled crap, we are just going to laugh at you.

:D

SJ, I don't like that one very much either, by the look of it. I have never dove it though, so take that FWIW.

It appears to be a once a year divers BCD tricked out to look tech. I think you can do better, for less $$. Like Walter said, try to get one that is more...less.

One of my buddies says he likes Hitler more than integrated weights. :) It makes it difficult to lift the entire kit.
My fiancee almost drowned because of a similar BC.
The dangling pull exhaust got caught somehow during a high surf entry and would not allow her to inflate her BC. She could not make her way through the surf underwater without getting rolled toward the beach.
The chest strap is unnecessary, plastic quick releases can easily break, dual D-rings on the shoulder straps invite too much dangling crap and the entire BC sticks out so far that it would make it harder to swim than a backplate. Other than that, it's fine.

Hey, my wife would love it, she has two jackets similar to that one but one of them at least is not weight integrated.

Seriously, never having used one, it just looks a little over stuffed, how much does it weigh, does it pack well, how much dollars for the privilege of owning it? N

I personally don't like jacket style BC's as they seem to be bulkier in front because of the need for part of the air cell to be in front.

One thing I did notice that seems a little odd is that one of the features:
A convenient utility pocket with Velcro™ closure sized to carry the AKONA Safety Tube or AVID folding snorkel.
is for a snorkel they don't list on their website and afaik has been discontinued for several years now. I have one that I bought a couple years ago on eBay. It's not great - not worth adding a special pocket for it.

It may pack ok when the pockets are out. As for the money, a quick google said 385 to 450:shocked2:

Take a look at what LP has from Zeagle. I have had better luck with their bc's. (I sold my sherwood).
