I had the same idea. My son (18) and I both have Dacor Sportster BC's - entry level but they work fine. I've tried soft weights in the pockets in the pool and they work great - MUCH more comfortable than a belt. They are easy to remove if needed and because we both know each other's systems, getting them out in a hurry would not be an issue. We dive together in warm water (Cozumel...) and we're both AOW divers so I see no problem with 10 or 12 lbs in the pockets. I always need to use a belt in cold water with a 7mil..., but I don't see any issue with this method in warm water. Using no more weight than we do -- there is no way that I could NOT lift him by inflating my bc alone - regardless of the condition of his BC.
