Which BC is a better for all around diving from technical diving on through recreational? The choice is between.... Sherwood Avid, Sherwood Outback, Sherwood Freedom, Sea Quest Pro QD + BCD, Sea Quest Balance, Genisis Recon, Zeagle Ranger.

Or if you know of a different type that is best.

Backplate and Wing. Hands down the best BC for recreational or technical diving.

My choice is a Scubapro Glide plus, I think it is the best, but then again the choice is yours.... which is the most comfortable to you and fits you the best. All we can do is give you info about what we like  which could be onesided.

Rich :mean:

I agree with ElectricZombie, I have MANY bc's purchased through the years, including the zeagle ranger and seaquest balance.

Though my FAVORITE is a bp w/wings. I dive tropic to cold in it and love it.

If you weren't doing tec diving I would recommend the Balance overall.

IMO the zeagle ranger, though a nice bc just didn't feel right in the water for me, but if you decide not to go with a back plate for whatever reason, I would have to recommend the ranger over the balance for tec/rec.

Bowtie ... these BP/wing junkies are really onto something. I just did my first dives in a BP/wing system today ... and just posted a review on it.

For background, I've done about 575 dives prior to today ... about 220 of those were in a TUSA Imprex Pro, the rest in a Scubapro Superhawk. I liked both of those BCDs ... particularly the Scubapro. But for about the same $$ you'd pay for just about any of those BCD's you mentioned, you can get into any of a number of good wing/BP systems.

Go read the report, and if you have any questions, please ask. I'm far from an expert (having all of two dives on the system) ... but I can tell you that I already wouldn't consider going back to a standard BCD at this point ... well, except for pool work ... :D

... Bob (Grateful Diver)

Either the AP Valves Buddy Commando TD or the Northern Diver Guardian. Both will lift twin 12ls comfortably. The Buddy is a better BCD but a good bit dearer while the Northern Diver Guardian provides a close substitute at a far cheaper price.

I dive with a Sherwood AVid. Its great for recreational, but I'm guessing that its not the best for technical diving:D

I'm reluctant to suggest BP/Wing when you specifically asked about BC's, but... IMO no BC is suitable for technical diving. I have a Ranger that I bought because I thought I could dive it with doubles in the future, but it's not really cut out for it.
In the "Other" category, have you looked at the OMS IQ or the Dive Rite TPII? I would take either of them over a standard BC.

Bowtie22,
As other have correctly posted here. None of these are Tec rigs. If you think you are going to go tec really soon, then BP/Wing is the most flexible setup and the least expensive in the long run.
For me, I'm not headed down the tec road anytime in the foreseeable future. Maybe once I get my skills perfected and have 200+ dive I'll be interested, but theres so much to learn and practice before I can get to a technical level.
PS - as you can see below, my choice was the Balance for myself. I think it is everybit as good as a BP/Wing for the rec diving I do.
