I used to be bigger than that and could not find Jacket BCD to fit. So I had gastric by pass and could not stand not being able to find equipment to enjoy this great hobby/sport. But my point is that at that weight you will be very limited unless you go to back wing setup. At 6' you probably at least 52-54" waist, finding a cumberbund to fit will be another challenge as well. Good Luck and visit as many shops and try different brands to see what works.

Shotz22,

I would recommend going to a shop and trying a few on. Mares tend to run big. The Icon in an XL if they make it may be okay. Going with an integrated BCD will allow you to do a combo of weight in the BCD and some on the belt. I think this will make things easier for you. You can always put your BCD on in the water and take it off and hand up to the boat when done. Conditions may vary, but this may be a good strategy for you.

Another option is to dive with different rental BCD's until you find one you like.

Good luck,

AZ

I would suggest a backplate and wing.

I am 5'10" and just under 300. I almost gave up on the sport because local dive shop only rented XL BCD's and were extremely uncomfortable.

I did my research (and with help / suggestions from instructor and buddies) and am going with a Back Plate / Wing set up. You don't like the fit...just buy some more webbing and make it bigger. Cut it down to fit you if is too big. It's win/win situation.

Also, I tried on a Zeagle Tech BCD size 2XL, that fit nicely. Although I didn't try many, this was the only jacket BCD that fit well. But, I have decided to go w/ BP/W to streamline and focus on fewer bells and whistles...keep-it-simple.

That being said, was also having a TERRIBLE time with weight belts. Although you didn't ask...I suggest going with Weight and Trim Harness. Load that baby up and you are good to go. So much more freedom of motion, better trim, easier to adjust as needed.

Good luck, hope that helps.

We can fit you...no problem!!

We have made up to a XXXXXXXL...as well as a flotation device for injured manatee...so trust me - we can fit you!

:D

I am 6'6" and 285 lbs and dove the Zeagle Ranger (XXL) and loved it. I have recently adopted the BP/W setup (DSS) and love it even more. Either one will do well for you.
