Neither the Stiletto or Zena worked out for Lilycat.

We tried all kinds of different sized parts for the Zena. We were able to get it to come very close to a good fit, but without any further adjustment possible (she couldn't lose weight, for example) ... so we are sending it back. There turned out to be a lot of unexpected interactions in the way the differently sized parts fit together.

The Stiletto fits OK but not great. I know she can do better.

The issue we had with both BC's was a tendency to shift/rotate around her torso/waist. The last thing she wants is to spend a lot of money on a BCD and have trim and comfort problems.

We're planning to drive to Scubatoys (from Houston) on the 19th. The following weekend we're going to Cozumel, so it's our last chance to buy before we go.

What should she try on while we're there? How do you gals feel about backplate systems for women? Any women diving them? We're also curious about the TransPac, although many people seem to have trouble configuring their TransPacs with their 1st stage clear of their head, that's something we can check easily in the store.

USA-made equipment is definitely a plus. I was disappointed that one of the Zena pieces we were sent was made in China! :11:

I've never used a BP/Wing set up, but I'd say if she can't fit into a Zeagle with all the adjustments, that a BP/wing is your best shot at finding something that's perfect.

Going to ScubaToys is an excellent idea! Lillycat will be able to try on many different options and can probably even use the pool to be sure what she wants is comfortable when she's wet.

Good luck, keep us posted!

I was v. busy yesterday and Jeff was kind enough to update this thread. I have to make a correction, though.

The Zena fit fairly well after I installed the large straps with the medium vest and large back (so it would hit lower with the hip straps at my actual hips). The problem is that there is no room to make it tighter. I plan to talk to Larry about this when we trek to Dallas. (Beef jerkey in Centerville...mmmm.)

Just to clarify, things are not a total loss on the BC front, but I am, as usual, hard to fit. This is my lot in life so I'll spend a few hours in the car to make things right.

I'll let you know my final results once we return.

We're back. We went to Scubatoys on Saturday (rented a Caddy). After sailing up there, I tried on a medium Zena, which fit very well. Then I tried on a Stilletto, a Brigade (originally wrote Ranger ), and a DiveRite Transpac.

I went with the Brigade (originally wrote Ranger): it had small shoulders and a medium harness (??). They didn't have that particular combination in the Stilletto, but they're basically the same BC.

So, I went with the Brigade (originally wrote ranger). The straps didn't interfere with my chest as they sort of curve to the sides. It was the best fit for me with the most flexibility (it isn't just for a woman so if I off load it later, I'll have more options of who can wear it.) Also, I liked my husband's Stilletto in the water -- so I think this v. similar BC should be good.

Just thought I should update this thread with the final result. I'll let you know more as time moves on and I've had some fun diving with this thing.

Thank you everyone for all your help and suggestions. It made things much easier.

:)

Actually, you bought a medium Brigade with small shoulders and the rear weight pockets. :D

Smart move, Lilycat. I have a women's BC I haven't been able to unload for 1/3 of what I paid for it. There is always demand for Rangers in case you want to try something else later. I have the opposite setup: Small harness and Med shoulders in the Brigade.

I'm happy to hear that you are finally fitted. It was an ordeal for me too.
